Prison Education Program (Part-Time)

Position Summary

White Mountains Community College (WMCC) is seeking a part-time Academic Coach/Tutor to support students participating in its Prison Education Program at the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord. The Academic Coach will facilitate a weekly study hall and provide academic support to students enrolled in WMCC's Business Administration and Liberal Arts programs.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and facilitate a weekly study hall session at the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord.
  • Provide academic coaching and tutoring support to WMCC students.
  • Assist students with:
    • Research skills
    • Writing assignments
    • Study strategies and time management
    • Basic mathematics and quantitative reasoning
    • General academic success skills
  • Encourage student engagement, persistence, and confidence in their coursework.
  • Communicate with the WMCC Student Success Center regarding student needs and program support.

Qualifications

  • Experience tutoring, teaching, academic coaching, advising, or supporting student success.
  • Strong written communication skills and knowledge of college-level research and writing.
  • Ability to assist students with basic mathematics concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and comply with all prison security requirements and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience tutoring adult learners or nontraditional students.
  • Familiarity with academic support services and student success strategies.

Schedule

  • Approximately one 2-hour study hall session per week.
  • Consistent weekly schedule to be determined.
  • Position requires travel to the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord.
