Communications Director
The New Hampshire School Funding Fairness Project (NHSFFP) is seeking a full-time Communications Director to help us deepen our impact in advocating for a more equitable and sustainable school funding system in New Hampshire. This role requires someone who can build on the recent expansion of our online presence and organizational reach and drive forward a dynamic, multi-channel communications strategy.
After three years in the role, the current Communications Manager is leaving to attend law school. The Communications Director will join a team of four and report to the Executive Director.

About NHSFFP
Founded in 2019, NHSFFP is a nonpartisan nonprofit that advocates for state-level policy changes to make New Hampshire’s public school funding system more equitable for students and taxpayers alike, through educating, empowering, and organizing informed groups of stakeholders. Our work is pivotal in educating the public about how the current system impacts local communities and students, and in collaborating with lawmakers and stakeholders to push for necessary changes.

Position Overview
The Communications Director will play a key role in broadening our reach, enhancing our digital strategies, and driving the conversation around school funding and equity. You will develop and execute both short- and long-term communications strategies, expand and deepen our digital presence, and ensure NHSFFP’s voice is heard on social media, in the press, and within policy conversations. Success in this role means strengthening public understanding of school funding issues and helping to shape the public and legislative narrative around educational equity in New Hampshire.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Director’s primary responsibilities include the following:
- Manage a strategic communications calendar to ensure timely, coordinated content across all platforms and campaigns.
- Develop rapid-response communications when events or news require quick, strategic messaging.
- Write compelling press releases, op-eds, newsletters, and blog posts.
- Manage NHSFFP’s social media presence and expand our online engagement on multiple platforms.
- Generate clear and engaging visuals for use in digital media, presentations, and outreach campaigns.
- Identify and uplift community voices and personal stories that highlight the real-world impact of school funding policies.
- Maintain and build upon NHSFFP’s strong relationships with reporters around the state. Pitch stories, handle media inquiries, and manage press events.
- Use analytics tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and email performance data to assess the effectiveness of our tactics.
- In collaboration with other NHSFFP staff, promote events, including rallies, briefings, community presentations and media appearances.
- Represent NHSFFP at public events and in speaking engagements as necessary, advocating for education equity and funding reform.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring the following skills and experience:
- At least three years of related communications experience, with a track record of increasing engagement across digital platforms.
- Experience in media relations, content creation, and social media management.
- Proficiency with social media and email platforms (NHSFFP uses EveryAction).
- Experience with website management, graphic design, and Google Analytics or other metric tools.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail and the ability to translate complex concepts to clear messages for different audiences.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently while collaborating effectively in a fluid and responsive work environment.
- A strong commitment to the mission of NHSFFP and the desire to contribute to the advancement of equitable school funding and educational opportunities for all students.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for the full-time Communications Director position is $60,000–$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. We strive to provide a competitive benefit package, including:
- Health care stipend up to $500/month.
- 38 days of employee paid leave (20 vacation days, 15 sick/personal days, and 3 flex holiday days) and recognition of 12 federal holidays.
- 6 weeks of job-protected family and medical leave with access to 60% wage replacement following 7 months of employment.
- 3% employer match on employee retirement contributions.
Work Environment
NHSFFP operates with a hybrid structure where in-office presence is expected at least two days per week in Concord, NH, combined with remote work from anywhere in New Hampshire on the remaining days . Given the nature of the work – such as presenting at School Board meetings or tabling at a community events – occasional evenings and weekend hours will be required.
