CATCH and M&T Bank's Amplify Fund working together for Affordable Housing

CATCH Neighborhood Housing Receives Grant from M&T Amplify Fund to Support Affordable Housing

Concord, New Hampshire…The M&T Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of M&T Bank (NYSE:MTB), announced that it has awarded $35,000 to CATCH Neighborhood Housing. The grant is part of the third round of giving through the Amplify Fund, providing more than $4.9 million to 51 lead nonprofit organizations throughout New England, Long Island, and Rockland County, NY.

Tom Furtado, President and CEO of CATCH Neighborhood Housing, was thrilled when he received news of the award, “We are so thankful to M&T for their generosity, which will help us build much needed affordable housing throughout Merrimack County. These funds will go to support the substantial predevelopment costs that must be undertaken to get any potential new development off the ground.” Furtado went on to add, “Initial planning, design, and municipal approvals are required before proposed housing can move forward and those up-front costs must be funded directly by CATCH before we can apply for tax credits and additional financing. Our ability to pay these predevelopment costs is made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like M&T Charitable Foundation.”

Over the past thirty-five years, CATCH has invested over $150 million dollars into bringing affordable and workforce housing to Merrimack County and beyond, providing homes for thousands of New Hampshire residents in an area where affordable rental options are limited. These units currently serve approximately 1,100 seniors, adults, and children per year. CATCH’s subsidiary non-profit property management arm, Alliance Asset Management, provides fair and professional property management and essential resident support for residents living in more than 1,000 apartments. In addition, through a collaborative partnership between CATCH and two other affordable housing developers in the state, HOMEteam provides essential homeownership and financial education services.

“M&T Bank is deeply committed to our community partners and strives to make a positive impact in peoples’ lives and in the communities we serve. We are proud to support Catch Neighborhood Housing through this $35,000 grant which helps provide crucial funding for much-needed, affordable housing for New Hampshire families during the state’s ongoing housing crisis,” said Tim Wade, M&T Bank’s Regional President in New Hampshire.

Dominique Goss, Executive Director of the M&T Charitable Foundation, shared “The M&T Charitable Foundation is proud to support the work of nonprofits like CATCH Neighborhood Housing that are dedicated to advancing equity and creating positive and lasting change. We look forward to seeing the progress of their work and the collective outcomes of our partnerships in the months and years ahead.”

First announced in May 2022, the Amplify Fund is a $25 million philanthropic investment as part of the merger between People’s United Bank and M&T Bank. Powered by the M&T Charitable Foundation, the Amplify Fund is a one-time supplemental charitable program to provide further support in the legacy People's United communities. The Amplify supplemental grant program is a three-year, $25 million commitment to address inequities, with a focus on all low- and moderate-income communities and underserved populations.

The first round of funding totaled more than $11.8 million to 105 nonprofit organizations and focused on equity and environmental initiatives, mission-driven and capacity-building work, community and tenant organizing, and financial empowerment and education for individuals and small businesses. The second round provided $8.2 million of funding to 68 organizations addressing issues like food security and affordable housing, income and wealth equity, workforce development, and access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Grantees in this third and final round of funding include nonprofit organizations that are centered on advancing financial inclusion and spurring economic growth and prosperity, with a particular focus on creating equitable change through homeownership, small business development and entrepreneurship, career growth, and financial resilience.

The Amplify Fund is designed to drive sustainable impact that is equitable, accessible, and responsive to local needs. Regional representatives of the bank will continue to meet with local leaders to help inform the strategic direction for the Fund’s third round.
